Here are a few photos from the 2008 (9th annual) Earth Day Celebration at The Oregon Garden. Almost 3,000 visitors showed up to enjoy the theme of 'green footprints'.

Putting Plants to Work Where We Live, Labor, Breathe, and Play
Phytotechnologies‐ as plant‐based strategies to clean water, soil, air and provide ecosystem services‐ have an effective power beyond their science when integrated into our managed landscapes. As a scientist, do you wonder what will happen to your research when it leaves the lab or pilot field? As a landscape architect or engineer, do you often get asked by clients for proof of function regarding the innovative solutions you design to address day‐to‐day practical challenges?
This conference will bring the scientists, designers, engineers, builders, regulators, site owners, and users working with phytotechnologies into one conversation to promote successful implementation and operation of plant solutions that build an ecological relationship with the landscapes and communities they serve.
Which technologies and system designs are effective? Which plant and pollutant relationships are most effective? What do we already know? What do we still need to know? How do we apply and integrate the effective technologies into both short‐term and more permanent landscapes and built environments? How do we train the new generations of workers and designers in these fields? Why is it important to understand phytotechnologies in an ecological context?
Informative sessions and lively discussions will offer research updates and practical guidance and inspire creativity in an already cutting edge field. Mini plenary speakers (by invitation) will introduce each session topic. Session presenters include local, regional, and international experts. Pre‐conference hands‐on training and post‐conference tours will offer participants a chance to put or see projects in action.
We are now accepting abstracts for both platform and poster presenters. Abstracts are due March 15, 2011. Details and the full text of the Call for Abstracts can be found by clicking here.
