Urban Applications for Ecological Horticulture:
Living Machine Adaptations

The day will begin with a 2-hour lecture on living machine concepts and various applications of this phyto-technology. A tour of the “Rogue Six-Pack” will allow participants to examine up-close a truck-sized model of a living machine. Participants will then collectively build a table-top version of a living machine and put it to work. The table-top system will live at The Oregon Garden and each participant will have the option to run their own experiment (after the course- each experiment will take approximately 4 days). The day will conclude with a tour of both the Oregon Garden’s treatment wetlands and also a floating wetland innovation that integrates water quality treatment with nursery crop production.

This workshop is designed for water quality professionals who want an introduction to innovative tools for water treatment and reuse; growers who want an introduction to new propagation tools; horticulture or landscape design students; Master Gardeners; or pond enthusiasts.

Fee of $105 includes hand-outs, lunch, and admission to The Oregon Garden.

This workshop is taught by SPROut staff.
